AEMT
AEMT Program Overview
An AEMT (advanced emergency medical technician) is the intermediate level provider of the EMS system. While not all states recognize this level, the ones that do often see AEMTs utilized in rural areas or services that can benefit from having a larger pool of providers able to perform some invasive procedures.
AEMT is NOT a required step between EMT and Paramedic, although many EMTs choose to become an AEMT first before attending paramedic school.
An accelerated AEMT course is available for students who attended the EMT program with School of EMS.
In 2025 CAAHEP will begin voluntary programmatic AEMT accreditation. School of EMS is actively investigating this opportunity.
All qualified School of EMS AEMT programs are approved by the state in which they are held. All School of EMS graduates are eligible to attempt the National Registry exam.
